How to Save Energy Using a Cold Room on the Sunshine Coast

Pick a cool spot

First, try to pick a spot in the shade. While the South East Queensland sun is more than welcome at your next barbecue or pool party, you don’t want it blaring down on your cold room. If the cold room is being heated up by the sun, it will take much more energy to regulate the temperature, costing you more money. Pick a spot in the shade if you can, so that the cold room doesn’t have to compete with the harsh Queensland sun.

Keep a Consistent Temperature

Once you have set the temperature in your cold room, try to keep it consistent. To do this, try to only introduce already cold items into the cold room. This may not always be possible, but keep in mind that it takes more energy for the portable cool room hire to cool something down than it does to maintain its temperature. At the very least, let any hot food cool to room temperature before you place it in the cold room and avoid meddling with the temperature.

How to Choose a Refrigerated Storage Container

When hiring a refrigerated storage container, it’s important to ensure that you get exactly what you need. To do this, have a clear idea of what it is you want from your refrigerated container before you hire.

Avoid Opening the Door

This one’s a simple solution but an effective one. Don’t open the door. You will obviously need to open the door at some point to access whatever you’re storing in there, but aim to minimise the number of times you open the door by doing bulk trips and only allowing select people to access the cold room

Another thing to note is that not all cold rooms have latches. Aim to hire a cold room that does latch shut so that the door won’t accidentally be left partially open.

Expect Extra Energy

Even with all these precautions, expect that using a cold room in the summer will use up more energy than in the winter. If you’re using a cold room with a generator, make sure you have some extra fuel on hand just in case.
