5 Reasons Why We Love Bluesfest

It’s almost that time of year again - Bluesfest time! The Byron Bay Bluesfest is Australia’s premier contemporary Blues & Roots music festival, and we have been proud partners of the Bluesfest since the year it started, providing mobile cold room hire services for the stallholders, beer gardens, bars and food courts each year. We love everything the Festival is and does, but here are our top 5 reasons why we support this amazing music festival year after year.

#1. The Lineup - Of Course

Every year the lineup is amazing, and 2018 is set to be no different, with artists and bands like Lionel Richie, Lauryn Hill, John Butler Trio, Seal, Sheryl Crow and Newton Faulkner set to perform. There will be over 200 performances across the various stages, spread over 5, 12 hour days to an audience of over 100,000 people! If you haven’t bought your ticket already - why not???

#2. The Boomerang Festival

We love the addition of the Boomerang festivities at Bluesfest. The initiative of Bluesfest Director, Peter Noble, and Rhoda Roberts, a Bundjalung woman and the Festival Director, Boomerang Festival is an indigenous arts and culture event giving all Australians access to a true Indigenous experience. It encompasses dance, weaving, carving, talks and ideas, workshops, music, drumming and cultural exchanges between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Boomerang is presented as a small “festival within a festival” at Bluesfest, and we think it is a great addition to its program offering!

#3. Making Bluesfest Green

We love that the Bluesfest team is committed to the environmental sustainability of the festival and minimising its impact on the local environment. Each year they come up with new ways to “greening” the festival, and they have won 6 International A Greener Festival Awards because of it. Whether its giving the festival’s organic waste to a local pig farmer, recycling all of the cardboard used at the festival, or sending the landfill to Titree, a green energy plant that converts it to methane gas to power around 10,000 homes in Ipswich, Bluesfest is committed to implementing environmental initiatives each year.

#4. Family Festivities

Bluesfest is truly a festival for the whole family, with an entire tent dedicated to kids activities, as well as having a nappy changing and breastfeeding area for parents to use. Your kids may even love Bluesfest more than you do!

#5. The Bluesfest Busking Competition

This competition ensures that Bluesfest isn’t just about the big names and artists, but also about the unsigned local talent. Through the Bluesfest Busking competition, unsigned artists have the opportunity to showcase their talents to a previously untapped audience, as well as stand the chance to win some major prizes, like a stage position at Bluesfest and recording time. It’s a massive opportunity for local talent and it makes us proud to be associated with Bluesfest.

If you’re heading to Bluesfest this year, check out the Boomerang festivities, or support one of the busking winners during their stage time, and remember to let us know what you loved most! And of course, if you need mobile cold room services for your festival or event, get in touch so we can see how we can help you!
